Mr. & Mrs. Pitman!!! (Part 2)

Saturday was, of course, wedding day! It was a great day too! Emily, Brad, and I started off our day by going to Julwin's in downtown Fairhope for a delicious breakfast! Their french toast is great and definitly worth trying if you are in the area!

After breakfast, we went to the Grand Hotel! We walked around the grounds a little bit but melted in the heat. Fairhope is another level of hot...wow the humidity is out of control! So, we quickly made our way to the gorgeous pool complete with waterfalls and a waterslide!! We stayed there for the afternoon and then made our way to the church at 4!

The wedding was in a beautiful episcopal church called St. Francis at the Point! Here is the happy couple leaving the ceremony!

Unfortunately, all the other pictures that I have of the church and bridesmaids are showing up tiny on here???? Any ideas?

After the ceremony, we made our way to the Grand Hotel for the reception! When we got there, we realized the hotel staff made the decision to move the reception inside to the ballroom instead of having it outside on the point:( I was so disappointed and know that the bride was too. Thankfully, we did get to enjoy a beautiful cocktail hour outside on the lawn at sunset!

Here are a few pictures from the reception!

Overall, it was a beautiful wedding! I am so happy for Leslie and Robert and wish you all the best!! Love you!

Mr. & Mrs. Pitman!!! (Part 1)

This weekend, I had the honor and privilege of being in my best friend's wedding!!! Leslie is one of my oldest friend's dating back to both church and school days growing up! She was also one of my bridesmaids almost exactly 3 years ago! As a friend, she is very thoughtful, laid back, dependable, even tempered, funny, goofy, and sweet!!!

I still remember the night that Leslie called Emily, Margaret, and I to tell us about Robert. They met in law school and she was so excited! It was really sweet to hear Leslie gush about a boy because she is not one of the most emotional girls I know!

The weekend started off with the bridesmaid luncheon on Friday morning at The Fairhope Inn! Emily, Brad, and I left the house at 7:15 am to be in Fairhope by 11:30 for the luncheon. I am proud to report that we were on time promptly at 11:30 and even beat the bride-to-be!!! (This actually became a theme of the weekend. With such a laid back personality, timeliness is not one of Leslie's strong points! I say this with love because often times I am in the same boat!!) We had a delicious meal that included a crab cake salad and the most A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. fallen chocolate lava cake!!! After laying off of the desserts for the past several weeks in an effort to look my best for this weekend, the cake was the perfect reward!!!!

After lunch, we rested up and got ready for the rehearsal and after rehearsal dinner at the Fly Creek Cafe!!! The Fly Creek Cafe is a quaint little beach joint overlooking one of the marinas on the bay! We enjoyed a beautiful sunset and nice breeze after a quick but intense summer thunderstorm came through right at the beginning! The rehearsal dinner was very casual which was so nice! Here are some pictures from the night!

Body Pumping

When Brad and I were considering our new neighborhood, I said the one thing I really wanted to have in the neighborhood was a gym. I was so excited when one opened up last fall!! The owners are two graduates of Samford University. As part of their Business degree, they had to create a business model during Senior year. After college they decided to make their model a reality! I think (and hope) that they have done great! Here are a few pics!

My favorite part of the gym is Body Pump class!! It is so much more fun to work out with a choreographed routine to music and with other people! I have also loved meeting so many of my neighbors!! Here's what Les Mills Body Pump is all about:

BODYPUMP™ is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. The non-impact, high-intensity workout targets the legs, chest, back, triceps, biceps, shoulders, and abdominals. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for – and fast!

You can:
Burn up to 600 calories per class for fat loss
Improve your strength
Improve your general fitness
Shape and tone your muscles
Improve your bone density (helps ward off osteoporosis)
Come away feeling strong and confident

Let's hope so at least!!!

Ross Bridge Farmer's Market

During the summer, our neighborhood hosts a fresh Farmer's Market on the green on the first and third Saturday morning of every month! It is such a wonderful event with yummy goodies like Pure Alabama Honey, homegrown tomatoes, homemade sourdough bread, fresh herbs and plants as well as beautiful arts and crafts!

This morning they even had all sorts of animal related booths like unique dog collars, animal art, and even doggies to adopt! Unfortunately, we slept in a little too late and didn't quite make it for all the main events.

We did make it in time to see J3Organics! John Obert and his Dad own the business and sell organic soil and home grown organic produce! They are one of the main providers for some of the local restaurants like Hot and Hot, Avo and Dram, and more!! John, or Obert as everyone calls him is a friend-of-a-friend that we have gotten to know. Brad and I have plans to visit his farm soon! I can't wait!!

I told Obert that I am growing a few herbs as well as a tomato and red bell pepper plant at my house! They are "certified organic" according to me since they are planted in organic soil and fertilized with organic fertilizer! He generously offered me some of his organic fertilizer to use!!!

For the best results, he recommended that I catch about 5 gallons of rain water in a bucket which shouldn't take long with all of the rain we have been getting! Then, I should put one packet of fertilizer in an old sock or pantyhose and put it in the water. Every once in a while, I should squeeze the fertilizer into the water and it will create a compost. Then, I can use 1/2 of the compost on each plant!!! Thanks for the advice and most of all for the fertilizer!!

I can't wait for some fresh organic produce from my own garden!!! Here are a few pictures of how my plants are looking now!

Happy Birthday Rollins Ford Jones!!!

My friend Kat and her husband, Hank welcomed their first baby into the world on May 25, 2010!!

Rollins Ford Jones
6 lbs 6 oz

I finally made it to meet Rollins and visit Kat on Friday! Rollins is such a perfect and tiny little babe!

Since I have been learning to sew, I wanted to make Rollins something special! Hank and Kat have a French Bulldog named Scout that they love!!! I think she is actually their first baby:) In honor of Scout, I decided I would make the Johnny pattern for Rollins with a French Bulldog applique! I chose gray and white gingham fabric since gray is one of Kat's favorite colors and also one of the main colors in the nursery! I quickly ran into a problem - there are no French Bulldog appliques, period. So, I googled French Bulldog silhouette, found one I liked, printed it out, and then cut out some solid gray fabric in the shape of the bulldog! Then I went on to make my first ever John John! I sewed the applique on by hand-turning the wheel so that I could follow each curve and detail. I think that it turned out very well and so sweet!!

I also made a pacifier clip out of the same fabric and with a similar applique! Instead of the entire French Bulldog silhouette, this one just had the head of the bulldog!

I think that Kat was surprised and excited! Congratulations Kat and Hank!! I'm so excited for you!!!
